Delhi Capitals Vs UP Warriors 7 march

The two teams got off to a winning start in their respective maiden Women’s Premier League (WPL) games, on the back of some memorable performances with the bat.

Delhi got to showcase what a powerful batting unit they have, and laid down a marker for the rest of the teams in the tournament to try and emulate. With Meg Lanning and Shafali Varma setting the tone up top hitting quickfire fifties, while Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues gave the innings the finishing touches to help them rack up a massive 223 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The batting-might of Delhi ought to give some worries for UP Warriorz’s bowling attack, having conceded 169 against a Gujarat Giants line-up that did not quite as much of a punch that Delhi threatens to bring to the contest. That said, The Warriorz too would come into the game with a lot of things going their way, including a stunning finish led by Grace Harris in the final over a tight chase.

To go back to the same venue would add a bit of comfort for the team which will be looking towards their skipper and opener Alyssa Healy to come to join the run-party soon. Their choice of extending their batting at the cost of Shabnim Ismail’s extra pace paid dividends against Gujarat, but can they continue doing that against Delhi as well? That could be one of the primary concerns for Healy, alongside balancing a misfiring batting line-up that had to be rescued from a collapse , who has otherwise been smart in allocating people to their spots according to strengths.

Delhi, whose batting prowess were backed up by USA’s Tara Norris with a five-wicket haul have lesser things to be concerned about as yet, but it’s only early days in the tournament.
